The Washington Capitals signed defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk to a one-year contract worth $800,000, the team announced Saturday.
The 29-year-old tallied eight points in 49 games last season while averaging 14:52 of ice time per contest with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Van Riemsdyk is projected to serve a depth role for the Caps, slotting in behind John Carlson, Justin Schultz, and Nick Jensen on the right side of their blue line.
