Binnington admits throwing water bottle at Kadri: 'It was a God-given opportunity'
St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington confessed to throwing an empty water bottle at Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri.
The incident occurred following Game 3 of the second-round series between the two clubs. During that game, Binnington was hurt in a collision involving Kadri, causing the netminder to miss the rest of the series with a knee injury.
"Right before I walked into the locker room, I see (Kadri) doing an interview there, smiling, laughing, and I'm there in a knee brace limping down the hallway," Binnington told reporters Tuesday. "I just felt like it was a God-given opportunity."
Here's the clip of Kadri's interview:
Binnington and Kadri had history. In October, Binnington swung his stick near Kadri's head, but he failed to connect.
Binnington began the postseason as the backup to Ville Husso, but he went on to post a .949 save percentage and a 1.72 goals-against average in six playoff games after a subpar regular season. St. Louis ended up losing the series against Colorado in six games.
Kadri has been integral in helping the Avalanche advance to the Western Conference Final, recording five goals and five assists in 10 playoff games.
