Maple Leafs lose another goalie as Samsonov exits vs. Bruins
Ilya Samsonov left the Toronto Maple Leafs' 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins with a knee injury, providing the team with more headaches between the pipes.
Erik Kallgren replaced Samsonov to begin the third period. Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed Samsonov was injured when he fell backward in an unsuccessful sprawling effort on Brad Marchand's penalty shot, per David Alter of Inside The Maple Leafs. Samsonov remained in the net for the rest of the frame.
Keefe confirmed Samsonov will be unavailable for Sunday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes but didn't comment further on his condition.
The Maple Leafs are already without Matt Murray due to an adductor injury suffered Oct. 15. Third-string netminder Joseph Woll is still out after undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason.
Kallgren would currently be the only available goaltender under contract for Toronto if Samsonov misses any time.
Toronto cleared a contract Saturday when Nicolas Aube-Kubel was claimed off waivers by the Washington Capitals. The Maple Leafs were previously at the maximum 50 contract slots.
They could opt to sign one of their AHL goaltenders in Keith Petruzzelli or Dylan Ferguson if they need to add a healthy body.
