Canucks flip Stillman to Sabres for Bloom
The Vancouver Canucks traded defenseman Riley Stillman to the Buffalo Sabres for forward prospect Josh Bloom, the teams announced Monday.
Stillman recorded five assists in 32 games with the Canucks this season while averaging 16:06 per contest. The 24-year-old is signed through next season with a $1.35-million cap hit and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the deal.
His underlying numbers were strong in 2020-21 but have been poor the past two campaigns.
The Canucks acquired Stillman from the Chicago Blackhawks prior to the start of the campaign in exchange for a second-round pick and forward Jason Dickinson.
Bloom was a third-round pick by the Sabres in 2021. The 19-year-old tallied 58 points in 59 games with the OHL's Saginaw Spirit and North Bay Battalion this season.
Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams won a Stanley Cup with Stillman's father, Cory, in 2006 with the Carolina Hurricanes.
