Pittsburgh Penguins forward Brock McGinn and defenseman Mark Friedman cleared waivers on Wednesday.
McGinn has two years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $2.75 million. The 29-year-old has 10 goals and 15 points in 59 games this season.
Friedman is signed through 2023-24 at a cap hit of $775,000. The 27-year-old cleared waivers in October. He has one goal in 11 NHL games this season.
Should McGinn and Friedman be assigned to the AHL, the Penguins would free up $1.9 million in cap space.
Pittsburgh placed Kasperi Kapanen on waivers Sunday. The St. Louis Blues claimed the 26-year-old and his $3.2-million cap hit Monday.
