The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Matt Nieto to a two-year contract with a $900,000 cap hit, the team announced Saturday.
Nieto, 30, scored 12 goals and 24 points in 81 contests with the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche last season. He was acquired by the Avalanche prior to the trade deadline with Ryan Merkley for Martin Kaut and Jacob MacDonald.
The California native is coming off a two-year contract with a $850,000 cap hit, signed with the Sharks in 2021.
Nieto has 85 goals and 199 points in his 651-game career. He's only played for the Sharks and Avalanche, having two separate stints with both teams.
The Penguins had just over $14 million of cap space prior to the signing, per CapFriendly.
