The Florida Panthers are signing defenseman Niko Mikkola to a three-year contract, the team announced Saturday. The deal comes with a $2.5-million cap hit, PuckPedia reports.
Mikkola tallied one goal and six points in 81 contests between the St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers last season. The Rangers acquired the 6-foot-4 blue-liner prior to the trade deadline along with Vladimir Tarasenko.
The 27-year-old Finn averaged 14:23 of ice time in New York's first-round series against the New Jersey Devils.
Mikkola has played 170 career NHL games, totaling five goals and 23 points.
