Vegas Golden Knights forward Brett Howden was suspended two games for an illegal check to the head of Seattle Kraken forward Brandon Tanev, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Wednesday.
Howden received a match penalty during Tuesday's contest after hitting an unsuspecting Tanev up high in the third period of the defending champions' 4-1 victory.
Tanev left the game and didn't return. The decision to assess a five-minute major was upheld after review. The Kraken didn't score on the subsequent power play.
Howden hadn't previously received supplementary discipline in his NHL career.
