The Calgary Flames drafted forward Matvei Gridin with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft on Friday.

Gridin tallied 38 goals and 83 points in 60 games with the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks this season. He's set to join the University of Michigan in the fall.

The Russian was ranked 21st among North American-based skaters by Central Scouting, up from 30th at midseason.

Gridin is listed at 6-foot-2 and 189 pounds.

"The talent is obvious in Gridin's game," The Athletic's Corey Pronman wrote. "He's a strong skater with excellent offensive skills. ... His effort level is just OK, and he can play on the perimeter too much."

The Flames drafted defenseman Zayne Parekh ninth overall earlier in the night.
