Flyers sign Konecny to 8-year, $70M extension
The Philadelphia Flyers signed winger Travis Konecny to an eight-year contract extension with an average annual value of $8.75 million, the team announced Thursday.
Konecny will be Philadelphia's highest-paid player when the new contract kicks in for the 2025-26 season. He's currently set to ride out the final season of a six-year deal that pays him $5.5 million annually.
"I just wanted to get this over with and make sure that there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be a Flyer for life and what we had been working towards and what I believed that this team can be," Konecny said, according to NHL.com's Adam Kimelman. "This is where I wanted to be. It was pretty easy for me to make the decision that I was going to stay here as long as possible."
His new pact includes a no-move clause for the first six seasons and a limited no-trade list for the last two years, sources told The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jackie Spiegel.
"Travis Konecny is an integral part of the fabric of our team, and we are thrilled to have him under contract for the long term," general manager Daniel Briere said. "Travis has grown into a significant leader on our team, and he truly embodies what it means to be a Flyer.
"His work ethic, combined with his tenacity and talent makes him a central figure for what we are building towards, and his determination for our future success speaks volumes about his commitment to our team and city."
Konecny enjoyed a breakout season in 2022-23, registering 31 goals and 30 assists in 60 games. He followed that up with a team-leading 33 goals and 35 assists in 76 games.
The 27-year-old has proven to be a strong offensive play driver, though his defensive game could stand to improve.
The Flyers drafted Konecny with the 24th overall selection in 2015. The 5-foot-10 winger has amassed 400 points in 564 career NHL games.
