The Los Angeles Kings signed defenseman Jordan Spence to a two-year contract with a $1.5-million cap hit, the team announced Thursday.

Spence, 23, was a restricted free agent. He tallied two goals and 24 points in 71 games last season, his first full campaign in the NHL, and added an assist in five playoff contests.

Born in Australia and raised in Japan until he was 13, Spence has played internationally for Canada. He's the first Australian-born player in NHL history.

Spence accumulated four goals and 33 points in 101 games over parts of three seasons with the Kings. Los Angeles drafted him 95th overall in 2019.

The Kings have $1.4 million of cap space after the signing, according to PuckPedia.
