The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Logan O'Connor to a six-year extension, the team announced Monday.

O'Connor's extension will carry a $2.5-million cap hit, TSN's Pierre LeBrun reports. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The 28-year-old accrued 13 goals and 25 points in 57 games last year. He underwent season-ending hip surgery in March.

"We are thrilled to have 'OC' under contract for the next seven years," general manager Chris MacFarland said in a statement. "He is a relentless worker and competitor who brings energy and grit to the lineup every night. His speed and skating ability makes him a dangerous two-way player and he is one of our top penalty killers. Logan is also a great teammate and takes pride in being a part of the Denver community."

O'Connor is entering the final season of a three-year contract that has a cap hit of $1.05 million.

Last October, O'Connor became the ninth player in NHL history to score a shorthanded goal in three consecutive games.

The University of Denver product has compiled 35 goals and 82 points in 263 career contests, all with Colorado. He won the Stanley Cup in 2022, skating in 17 playoff games during the team's run. O'Connor was signed by the Avalanche as an undrafted free agent in 2018.
