Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Reinbacher is out five-to-six months after undergoing surgery on his left knee, the team announced Tuesday.

Reinbacher, 19, injured his knee in a collision with Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Marshall Rifai on Saturday.

The Canadiens drafted Reinbacher fifth overall in 2023. He tallied 11 points in 35 games in Switzerland last season and five points in 11 contests with the AHL's Laval Rocket.

Reinbacher matched Thomas Vanek as the highest-drafted Austrian in NHL history. He's represented his country at the world juniors, World Championship, and Olympic qualifiers.

Canadiens forward Patrik Laine also exited Saturday's game with a suspected knee injury. The team has yet to announce his status.
