Senators sign Ullmark to 4-year, $33M extension
The Ottawa Senators signed goaltender Linus Ullmark to a four-year contract extension with an $8.25-million cap hit, the team announced Wednesday.
Ullmark, 31, has yet to play a game for the Senators. He was acquired by Ottawa in June from the Boston Bruins for goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, forward Mark Kastelic, and a first-round pick. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
"When you get to this part of your career, you really want to put an emphasis on what's best for your family," Ullmark said in a statement. "And we felt that ever since we came here, it's been a great fit. I'm hoping this can help change things for the better in this organization for this city."
Ullmark posted a .915 save percentage and a 2.57 goals-against average while going 22-10-7 with the Bruins last season. He played only two playoff games after Jeremy Swayman solidified himself as Boston's starter.
Swayman signed at the same cap hit for eight years with the Bruins on Oct. 6. Ullmark will join Swayman and New York Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin as the fourth-highest-paid active netminder in the league when the extension kicks in next year.
Ullmark won the Vezina Trophy in 2023 after leading the NHL with a .938 SV%, a 1.89 GAA, and 40 wins in 49 games. He finished sixth in Vezina voting last season.
Over parts of nine seasons with the Buffalo Sabres and Bruins, Ullmark has a career .918 SV% and 2.51 GAA in 247 games. He hasn't had a single-season save percentage under .915 since 2018-19.
Ullmark is expected to make his Senators debut Thursday against the Florida Panthers.
