Kraken ink Daccord to 5-year, $25M extension
The Seattle Kraken signed goaltender Joey Daccord to a five-year contract extension with a $5-million cap hit, the team announced Wednesday.
Daccord, 28, played his first full campaign in the NHL last season with Seattle. He posted a .916 save percentage and a 2.46 goals against average in 50 games, accumulating a 19-18-11 record.
"Joey stepped up last season and proved his ability to handle an increased workload," general manager Ron Francis said in a statement. "We're confident he can take his game to another level, and we're excited to have him under contract long term."
The Arizona State product has a $1.2-million cap hit this season and was set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Daccord was excellent with Seattle's AHL affiliate, where he spent two seasons before making the jump to the NHL. He led the Coachella Valley Firebirds to the Calder Cup Final in 2023, going 15-11-0 with a .926 SV% in the postseason.
The Kraken have $10.9 million of cap space committed to goaltending beginning in 2025-26, with Philipp Grubauer under contract at a $5.9-million cap hit. He's signed through 2026-27.
Grubauer was signed by Seattle before its inaugural season after recording a .918 SV% over three seasons with the Colorado Avalanche. The German hasn't found the same success with the Kraken, managing just a .893 SV% in 131 games. He's yet to have a season with a save percentage over .900 with the Kraken.
Daccord was drafted 199th overall in 2015 by the Ottawa Senators. He was claimed by the Kraken in the 2021 expansion draft.
