Columbus Blue Jackets captain Boone Jenner is out five-to-six months after undergoing successful shoulder surgery, general manager Don Waddell told team reporter Jeff Svoboda Thursday.

Jenner, 31, recorded 22 goals and 35 points in 58 games last season. He got hurt during a practice on Oct. 4.

"His loss will be felt by our club, but we have a strong leadership group in place and players will be given an opportunity to take on greater roles on and off the ice," general manager Don Waddell said in a statement.

Jenner is the franchise leader in games played and ranks third in goals and points. He's played his entire 715-game career in Columbus.

Forward Dmitri Voronkov doesn't need surgery on his upper-body injury and hopes to return before the end of November, Waddell told Svoboda. Voronkov tallied 18 goals and 34 points in 75 contests as a rookie during the 2023-24 campaign.

The Blue Jackets begin their season against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
