Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Dennis Hildeby will make his first NHL start Thursday against the New Jersey Devils, head coach Craig Berube announced.
Hildeby was called up to the NHL on an emergency basis Wednesday after Joseph Woll was placed on injured reserve due to lower-body tightness. Hildeby backed up Anthony Stolarz in Toronto's season-opening loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
Hildeby was a fourth-round draft pick of the Maple Leafs in 2022. The 6-foot-7 Swedish netminder briefly spent time with the Maple Leafs last season but never saw game action. He had a .913 save percentage in 41 games with the AHL's Toronto Marlies in 2023-24.
Along with a change in goal, Bobby McMann will replace Ryan Reaves up front on Thursday night.
