The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned forward Rutger McGroarty to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the team announced Wednesday.

McGroarty failed to record a point in three NHL appearances while averaging 11:37 per contest.

The Penguins acquired McGroarty from the Winnipeg Jets in an offseason trade in exchange for prospect Brayden Yager. McGroarty had reportedly informed the Jets he wouldn't sign with them over concerns that he wasn't promised a path to NHL playing time.

Winnipeg drafted McGroarty 14th overall in 2022. He recorded 52 points in 36 games at the University of Michigan last season.

The Penguins and Jets meet in Winnipeg on Sunday.
