Sharks set dubious record with 9th straight loss to open season

The San Jose Sharks entered the NHL record books for all the wrong reasons.

San Jose fell 7-3 to the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday to become the first team ever to open consecutive seasons with at least nine straight losses.

The Sharks are now 0-7-2. They started the 2023-24 campaign 0-10-1 before finding the win column en route to a last-place finish in the NHL.

San Jose has been outscored 39-18 this season.

The Sharks were once one of the league's most consistent franchises, only missing the postseason twice between 1998 and 2019. This season would mark the sixth straight year without a playoff appearance barring a miraculous turnaround.

The club has been without No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini since the season opener due to a hip injury.
