Capitals' Carbery: Chychrun day-to-day, Roy 'real close'
Washington Capitals defenseman Jakob Chychrun is day-to-day after suffering an injury Tuesday night but the team is awaiting more information, head coach Spencer Carbery said Wednesday, according to Monumental Sports Network's Ethan Cadeaux.
Chychrun sustained what the club called an upper-body injury in Tuesday's 5-3 win against the New York Rangers. He appeared to favor his left side before exiting the contest in the first period.
Carbery also noted blue-liner Matt Roy is "real close" to making his return. The bench boss wasn't sure if Roy would be ready to face the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday but said he doesn't expect the defenseman to be out much longer. Roy hasn't played since he left Washington's season-opening loss to the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 12.
Chychrun has been skating on the top pairing with John Carlson, ranking second on the team in average time on ice. He's recorded two goals and two assists in eight games.
The Capitals acquired Chychrun in an offseason trade with the Ottawa Senators. He's a pending unrestricted free agent. Washington signed Roy to a six-year, $34.5-million deal as a UFA in July.
