Washington Capitals defenseman Jakob Chychrun didn't return after suffering an upper-body injury in Tuesday's 5-3 win against the New York Rangers.

Chychrun appeared to favor his left side before departing the contest in the first period.

"A little concerned because we're obviously missing Matt Roy, as well," Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said postgame, per Monumental's Tarik El-Bashir. "I don't know the extent of it. But to play with five D for 55 minutes against that team, a lot of credit to our D for battling through that."

The 26-year-old has been playing on the top pairing with John Carlson, ranking second on the team in average time on ice. He's recorded two goals and two assists in eight games this season.

The Capitals acquired Chychrun in an offseason trade with the Ottawa Senators. Washington has also been without Roy - another summer acquisition - since the season opener.

Chychrun is a free agent at the end of the season.
