Canadiens' St. Louis: We threw up all over ourselves in 3rd-period collapse
The Montreal Canadiens' third-period performance in Thursday's loss to the Washington Capitals made head coach Martin St. Louis sick to his stomach.
The Habs entered the final frame level with the Caps but allowed three unanswered goals and fell 6-3.
"Our start showed we were patient and disciplined ... We're in a good spot going into the third and you just throw up all over yourself," St. Louis said postgame.
Washington scored a pair of goals 36 seconds apart in the opening five minutes of the third period, something Montreal captain Nick Suzuki says can't happen.
"It's been a trend lately and that's got to stop," Suzuki said. "You can't give up two goals back-to-back like that."
It's the fourth time this season in which the Canadiens, who are now 4-6-1, lost a game they were once leading.
"The frustrating thing is it's repeating mistakes by all of us," veteran forward Brendan Gallagher added. "As individuals, I think we need to be more accountable towards the team. Once again, we're sitting here disappointed we lost a game. We felt like we handed it to them. They worked, give them credit, but we're disappointed with the mistakes we made on our end."
