The Vegas Golden Knights signed forward Brett Howden to a five-year extension with an average annual value of $2.5 million, the team announced Friday.

Howden was set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season upon the expiry of his current two-year, $3.8-million pact. He inked that deal as a restricted free agent in July 2023.

The 26-year-old has eight goals - all of which came at even strength - and one assist in 20 appearances so far this season while averaging a career-high 15:07 minutes of ice time per contest.

Howden is in the midst of his fourth season in Vegas after being traded to the team by the New York Rangers during the 2021 offseason. He chipped in with five goals and 10 points in 22 playoff games while helping the Golden Knights capture their first Stanley Cup championship in 2023.

Howden was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning with the 27th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft and has amassed 47 goals and 110 points in 371 career NHL games.
