Report: Rangers' Kakko back on trade block
Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba aren't the only New York Rangers players reportedly available.
Kaapo Kakko's name has resurfaced in trade talks, sources told TSN's Darren Dreger.
The Rangers took calls on Kakko ahead of the 2024 trade deadline, but no deal came to fruition. New York re-signed the Finnish winger to a one-year, $2.4-million deal in the offseason. He'll be a restricted free agent at season's end and can become unrestricted in 2026.
General manager Chris Drury is reportedly looking to shake up the Rangers with a big trade and isn't opposed to dealing multiple players, including Kreider and Trouba.
Kakko has failed to meet expectations since New York drafted him second overall in 2019. His career-best season came in 2022-23 when he managed 18 goals and 22 assists. The 23-year-old has registered 12 points in 21 games this year.
The Rangers have several key pending free agents this offseason, including RFA K'Andre Miller and UFAs Ryan Lindgren and Igor Shesterkin.
