Report: Sabres owner told players not to expect wholesale changes

It appears Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula isn't smashing the panic button despite his team's 10-game losing streak.

Pegula met with players Monday in Montreal and professed his faith in general manager Kevyn Adams and head coach Lindy Ruff and told them not to expect a big trade, sources told Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.

The Sabres are 0-7-3 in their last 10 games and sit 29th in the NHL. Buffalo owns the NHL's longest-ever postseason drought at 13 years and running.

Adams has been the GM since June 2020. The Sabres hired Ruff this past offseason for his second stint as the team's bench boss. It was the franchise's seventh coaching change during the playoff drought.

"I'm almost lost for words, obviously," Ruff said following Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. "It's on me to solve this. This is the toughest solve I've been around. It is on me to get these guys in the right place and win a hockey game. And nobody else, just me."

With a young core featuring Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power, and Tage Thompson, Buffalo was expected to compete for the playoffs this season. The Sabres finished one point out of a postseason spot in 2022-23 but have regressed since.
