A scoring change took away Sidney Crosby's 1,034th career assist Saturday.
The helper would've seen Crosby pass Mario Lemieux for the most assists in Pittsburgh Penguins history.
Instead, Rickard Rakell registered the lone assist on Michael Bunting's power-play goal against the New York Islanders.
Crosby tallied three assists against the Philadelphia Flyers on Dec. 23 to tie the record.
The Penguins captain has the 12th most assists in NHL history and is 16 helpers away from tying Gordie Howe for 10th.
Lemieux holds the outright Pittsburgh's all-time record for goals (690) and points (1,723). Crosby trails him by 88 goals and 88 points.
Crosby signed a two-year extension with the Penguins in September that starts next season.
