The New York Rangers claimed winger Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, the teams announced.

Kaliyev has yet to play in the NHL this season after fracturing a clavicle in training camp. He registered a goal and an assist in five AHL games during a recent conditioning stint.

The Kings drafted Kaliyev 33rd overall in 2019. A 6-foot-2 winger with a heavy shot, Kaliyev potted 126 goals in 192 games during a prolific junior career with the OHL's Hamilton Bulldogs before turning pro.

The results haven't quite been there in the NHL, though. Kaliyev has produced 35 goals and 36 assists in 188 career games - an average of 31 points per 82 contests - while averaging 12:08 per night.

Kaliyev is just 23, though, and should get an opportunity to play more regularly for a Rangers team that recently traded top-nine forward Kaapo Kakko.

Born in Uzbekistan before growing up in Staten Island, New York, Kaliyev carries an $825,000 cap hit and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
