The New York Islanders acquired defenseman Scott Perunovich from the St. Blues for a conditional 2026 fifth-round draft pick, the teams announced Monday.

Perunovich, 26, has two goals and six points in 24 games this season. The 5-foot-10 rearguard has played 14:37 per contest.

He carries a cap hit of $1.15 million and is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the campaign.

The Islanders are currently without Noah Dobson, Ryan Pulock, and Mike Reilly on the back end because of injuries. New York signed free agent Tony DeAngelo on Friday.

Perunovich won the Hobey Baker Award in 2020 as men's college hockey's top player after he tallied 40 points in 34 games at Minnesota-Duluth.

He's missed significant time in his pro career because of various injuries. Perunovich didn't play a game in 2020-21 after undergoing shoulder surgery, and he had another shoulder operation in October 2022.

The Minnesota native set career highs last season when he played 54 games and registered 17 points.

Perunovich has played 97 NHL games over three seasons and has 29 points. He was selected 45th overall by the Blues in the 2019 draft.
