The NHL Department of Player Safety suspended Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Emil Lilleberg two games Monday for interference against Detroit Red Wings forward J.T. Compher.
The hit occurred in the second period of Saturday's contest.
Compher was injured on the play and remains out of the Red Wings' lineup Monday.
The hit was deemed worthy of a suspension due to the significant head contact on the play in addition to the check being delivered late.
Lilleberg has 11 assists and 76 penalty minutes in 45 games this season. He'd never been fined or suspended previously in his NHL career.
Compher has six goals and 21 points in 48 contests on the campaign.
