Flames place Barrie on waivers
The Calgary Flames put defenseman Tyson Barrie on the waiver wire Tuesday, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Barrie has been limited to 13 NHL games this season due to injury and being made a healthy scratch. He has a goal and two assists while averaging a career-low 15:48 in 2024-25.
The 33-year-old produced one tally and two helpers in two outings with the AHL's Calgary Wranglers, for whom he played while on a conditioning loan in late January.
The Flames invited Barrie to training camp on a professional tryout deal last fall and subsequently signed him to a one-year, $1.25-million contract.
Barrie is in his 14th NHL campaign. The British Columbia-born rearguard has topped the 50-point mark three times, most recently with a 55-point effort while playing 85 games with the Edmonton Oilers (61) and Nashville Predators (24) in 2022-23.
However, his offense has dried up since then. Barrie collected a goal and 14 assists in 41 contests with the Predators in 2023-24. The Flames have controlled only 48.11% of the expected goals with the veteran on the ice this season, per Natural Stat Trick.
Barrie has also suited up for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche. He spent his first eight campaigns with Colorado, the club that drafted him 64th overall in 2009. The Avalanche traded him to the Leafs for a package including Nazem Kadri in the summer of 2019.
