Red Wings trade Husso to Ducks for future considerations
The Detroit Red Wings traded goaltender Ville Husso to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for future considerations, the teams announced Monday.
Husso has recorded an .866 save percentage in nine games with the Red Wings this season. He's spent most of the campaign in the AHL, where he's managed a .912 save percentage in 13 appearances.
The 30-year-old Finn is in the final season of a three-year contract carrying a $4.75-million cap hit.
Husso's best season came in 2021-22 with the St. Louis Blues when he posted a .919 save percentage in 40 games. Detroit signed him as a free agent that offseason hoping he would solidify its crease, but that never materialized. He registered a sub-.900 save percentage in each of his three seasons with the Red Wings.
The Red Wings this season have primarily relied upon the veteran duo of Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon, who've been solid for the most part.
Husso will report to the Ducks' AHL affiliate in San Diego. Anaheim has a stellar goalie tandem of Lukas Dostal and John Gibson at the NHL level, although the latter is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Gibson is also reportedly on the trade block.
