The Utah Hockey Club announced Monday they've signed defenseman Olli Maatta to a three-year contract extension.

The deal carries an average annual value of $3.5 million, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

The contract also includes a 10-team no-trade list in Year 1 and a five-team no-trade list in Year 2, per PuckPedia.

Maatta has tallied two goals and 12 assists in 51 games with Utah this season. He ranks third on the team in average ice time (20:41). He was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings in October in exchange for a third-round pick.

Despite limited offensive contributions, Maatta has been stellar defensively this season. He ranks sixth among NHL blue-liners with 7.3 defensive goals above replacement, per Evolving-Hockey.

"We're thrilled to have Olli signed for the next three years," general manager Bill Armstrong said. "Olli is a smart defenseman and a true professional on and off the ice. He has brought stability to our blue line, has a tremendous work ethic, and is an excellent role model for our younger players. We look forward to having him as an important part of our core moving forward."

The 30-year-old is in his 12th NHL season. He was a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2012 and won two Stanley Cups in the Steel City. Maatta has also played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, and Red Wings.
