Jets clinch top seed in Western Conference
The West will run through Winnipeg.
The Jets secured the No. 1 seed in Central Division and the Western Conference by picking up a point in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks. This guarantees a Round 1 matchup with the second wild-card team and home-ice advantage through the first three rounds of the playoffs, should Winnipeg make it that far.
Cole Perfetti scored the shootout winner.
The Jets will play the Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, or Calgary Flames in Round 1. The latter is the least likely of the trio.
Winnipeg's clinch also locks in the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche as the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds in the Central Division, respectively, meaning they'll face each other in Round 1. Both juggernauts loaded up before the trade deadline, with the Stars landing former Avalanche star Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes.
The NHL-leading Jets haven't clinched the Presidents' Trophy just yet, although they hold a five-point edge over the Washington Capitals.
Not only is this the first time in franchise history the Jets have been a conference's top seed, but it's their first division title since relocating to Winnipeg from Atlanta in 2011. The Atlanta Thrashers previously won the Southeast Division in 2007.
