The Washington Capitals signed center Nic Dowd to a two-year contract extension with a $3-million average annual value, the team announced Wednesday.
The 34-year-old has set career highs in goals (14) and points (27) in 81 games this season while averaging 15:10 per contest.
Dowd has posted strong defensive metrics for the fourth consecutive season. He ranks first among Capitals forwards and seventh among all NHL centers with 4.5 defensive goals above replacement, per Evolving-Hockey. He finished 30th in Selke Trophy voting last year.
The Huntsville, Alabama, native was a seventh-round pick by the Los Angeles Kings in 2009. He's recorded 176 points in 581 games across his 10-year career.
