Knies' status for Game 7 uncertain due to apparent injury

Toronto Maple Leafs winger Matthew Knies is being evaluated for an apparent injury suffered in Friday's Game 6 victory against the Florida Panthers, head coach Craig Berube told reporters postgame.

"We don't know right now," Berube said when asked what Knies was dealing with.

Knies' status for Sunday's Game 7 is uncertain.

"He's dealing with something here that happened, and we've got to look at him and see how he's feeling tomorrow," Berube added.

The 22-year-old appeared to be in discomfort after a landing a hit on Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola late in the first period.

Knies never completely left the game, but he appeared to be laboring throughout the contest and didn't take on his usual workload, logging just 13:01. He hadn't played less than 18:34 in any game this series.

The power forward has tallied five goals, two assists, and 31 hits in 12 games this postseason. He established new career highs in goals (29), assists (29), and points (58) during a breakout regular season.

Bobby McMann jumped up for the occasional shift on Toronto's top line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner when Knies was unable.
