Rangers name Miller captain
The New York Rangers named J.T. Miller the 29th captain in franchise history, the team announced Tuesday.
Miller has played seven seasons with New York over two stints. The Rangers re-acquired him in January from the Vancouver Canucks.
The 32-year-old tallied 13 goals and 35 points in 32 games last season with New York and 22 goals and 70 points in 72 contests across the full campaign.
"Since his arrival last season, J.T. immediately became a leader for our group and exemplifies how we want to conduct ourselves both on and off the ice," Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury said.
The Rangers traded the team's previous captain, Jacob Trouba, to the Anaheim Ducks in December.
Miller was drafted by New York 15th overall in 2011, and he played the first seven seasons of his NHL career with the Rangers. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2018.
The Ohio native has accumulated 260 goals and 709 points in 871 career games with the Rangers, Lightning, and Canucks. Miller notched a career-high 37 goals and 103 points in 2023-24 with Vancouver.
