Woll rejoining Maple Leafs after personal leave
Goaltender Joseph Woll is rejoining the Toronto Maple Leafs after a personal leave of absence, the team announced Friday.
Woll will resume team activities and on-ice participation as part of the return-to-play process. He had been away from the Leafs since Sept. 23 to attend to a family matter.
The 27-year-old went 27-14-1 last season with a .909 save percentage in a career-high 42 games. Woll had a .886 SV% in seven playoff appearances, all coming in the second round against the Florida Panthers after a concussion sidelined Anthony Stolarz.
Toronto placed Woll on long-term injured reserve Thursday to create room to recall defenseman Dakota Mermis, according to PuckPedia. He can be activated from LTIR after missing 10 contests, which means the Leafs can't put him on the active roster until after their clash against the Calgary Flames on Oct. 28.
The Maple Leafs claimed goaltender Cayden Primeau off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes in Woll's absence. Primeau has made one start with Toronto, allowing four goals on 30 shots in a win versus the Nashville Predators.
