Maple Leafs' Woll suffers lower-body injury vs. Hurricanes
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll exited Thursday's 5-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes due to a lower-body injury and didn't return.
Woll stopped 22 of 23 shots through 40 minutes before being replaced by Dennis Hildeby to begin the third period. Hildeby made nine saves in relief to secure the victory.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube had no details to share postgame about the severity of Woll's injury.
"Right now, I can't give you that answer. I really don't know. Hopefully it's not (serious)," Berube told reporters postgame, adding that the team will know more Friday.
Woll was away from the team for the first month of the season due to a personal matter. He's been excellent since returning, sporting a .927 save percentage while starting eight of Toronto's nine games.
The Maple Leafs are currently without fellow goalie Anthony Stolarz, who hasn't played since suffering an upper-body injury on Nov. 11 - four days before Woll's season debut. Berube said Nov. 20 that Stolarz's issue was "worse than we thought."
Hildeby, 24, has posted a .919 save percentage in seven NHL appearances this campaign. Next up on Toronto's goalie depth chart would be Artur Akhtyamov or Vyacheslav Peksa, neither of whom has any NHL experience.
