8.7 million Canadians watched men's hockey gold-medal overtime

8.7 million viewers in Canada watched the United States' Jack Hughes score in overtime of the men's hockey gold-medal game, according to CBC.

The U.S. beat Canada 2-1 with Hughes' goal to claim its first gold medal in men's hockey since the "Miracle on Ice" in 1980.

It was the most-watched moment of the Milan Cortina Olympics in Canada despite an early start time that saw the game conclude at 10:52 a.m. ET.

The 2025 4 Nations Face-Off final peaked at 7.3 million viewers when Connor McDavid scored for Canada in overtime against USA, according to Sportsnet.

The highest-viewed television broadcast in Canadian history remains the 2010 Olympic gold-medal clash in men's hockey between Canada and the United States. There were 22 million viewers watching when Sidney Crosby scored in overtime in Vancouver, according to Hockey Canada.
