The Toronto Maple Leafs want a first-round pick and a prospect to trade forward Nicolas Roy, reports insider Frank Seravalli.

Toronto also isn't willing to retain salary on Roy, adds Seravalli.

Roy has five goals and 20 points in 59 games this campaign, and the right-handed center has won 52.9% of his draws. He's signed through next season at a $3-million cap hit and has no trade protection.

The Maple Leafs acquired Roy from the Vegas Golden Knights in the Mitch Marner sign-and-trade last year.

The Edmonton Oilers were linked to the 29-year-old before acquiring Jason Dickinson on Wednesday.

"I mean, I wasn't expecting to be traded last summer and never heard any rumors," Roy said Wednesday, according to Sportsnet's Luke Fox. "And then it happened. And sometimes you hear rumors, and it doesn't happen. So, yeah, I heard (the Oilers rumor), like everybody else. But I'm playing for the Leafs now, and I want to be here."

Roy, listed at 6-foot-4, won the Stanley Cup in 2023 with the Golden Knights. He notched 11 points in 22 contests during Vegas' championship run.

The Maple Leafs scratched Bobby McMann, Scott Laughton, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson for roster management purposes Wednesday ahead of Friday's trade deadline. Roy played 17:55 in the shootout loss against the New Jersey Devils, the most he's played since Dec. 30.

Roy tallied a career-high 41 points in 70 games in 2023-24 with the Golden Knights. Over his career, he's accumulated 73 goals and 186 points in 428 contests between the Carolina Hurricanes, Golden Knights, and Maple Leafs. Roy also has 10 goals and 32 points in 79 total playoff games, all with Vegas.

The Maple Leafs are 0-3-2 coming out of the Olympic break and are eight points out of the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
