Islanders F Frans Nielsen sustains broken hand, likely to miss first week after Olympic break
New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen sustained a broken hand when he was viciously slashed by Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson in the third period of Saturday night's game between the Islanders and the Avalanche.
Johnson was assessed a minor penalty on the play and faces a phone hearing with the league as a result of the incident.
As for Nielsen, he sustained a non-displaced fracture in his hand. While Nielsen may be able to return to the lineup immediately following the Olympic break, it's more likely that he'll miss the first week of action, according to Newsday reporter Arthur Staple.
