This Day in Hockey History
2013 - The Flames trade Jarome Iginla
In what was once considered unthinkable, the Calgary Flames traded captain and franchise leading scorer Jarome Iginla to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for prospects Kenneth Agostino, Ben Hanowski and a 2013 first round pick.
Iginla, who left the Flames franchise as their leader in games (1219), goals (525) and points (1095), was originally thought to be dealt to the Boston Bruins, but a last minute request landed him in Pittsburgh. Iginla only played 13 regular season games with the Penguins, notching five goals and 11 points while adding another four goals and 12 points in 15 playoff games.
Although Iginla had spurned Boston at the trade deadline, he ultimately ended up in Beantown, signing as a free-agent on July 5, 2013.

Nicholls would go on to have a stellar career, potting 475 goals and collecting 1,209 points, including a season where he found the back of the net 70 times (1988-89).
1985 - Dionne becomes third player to hit 1,500 career points
With a goal during a 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames, Los Angeles Kings legend Marcel Dionne became just the third player in NHL history to tally 1,500 career points (the first two being Gordie Howe and Phil Esposito).
Dionne would finish his career with 1,771 points, good for fifth on the all-time scoring list.
