The New York Rangers host the Washington Capitals in Game 7 of their second-round series Wednesday night, and a certain New York tabloid has a message for Alex Ovechkin:

After the Rangers won Game 6 on Sunday to square the series and force a seventh game, the Capitals captain said he still believed Washington was going to win.

"We're going to play our game and we're going to come back and we're going to play Montreal or Tampa," Ovechkin said Sunday.

The Lightning advanced to the Eastern Conference Final with a 4-1 victory over the Canadiens in Game 6 on Tuesday night.

Ovechkin didn't back down from his de facto guarantee when asked about it two days later.

"I just said we are going to New York and finish off the series," he told reporters. "That's what I mean. I don't care what everybody thinks."

New York is familiar with sports guarantees.

Rangers captain Mark Messier successfully predicted a victory prior to Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final against the New Jersey Devils, and New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath came through on his guarantee of an upset victory over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.

The Capitals held a 3-1 series lead before losing Game 5 and 6 over the weekend.
