Coyotes hire analytics guru Chayka as assistant GM
The Arizona Coyotes' youth movement now officially includes the front office.
John Chayka confirmed his hiring by the club in a Facebook post on Monday.
The Coyotes announced Chayka's hiring Monday afternoon, adding that Chris O'Hearn was hired as the team's other assistant general manager, specializing in hockey operations.
TSN's Aaron Ward reported the Coyotes' intent to hire Chayka last month.
The 25-year-old analytics expert is the co-founder and director of hockey operations with Stathletes, Inc., an Ontario-based statistics company that touts itself as the provider of "professional hockey's deepest performance data and analytics."
The Coyotes had the second-worst record in the league at 24-50-8. They hold the third overall pick in next month's draft.
