Report: Voynov receives 90 days in jail, 3 years probation after pleading no contest to misdemeanor

Slava Voynov is going to jail.

The Los Angeles Kings defenseman has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of corporal injury to his spouse, Marta Varlamova, and will receive 90 days of jail time and three years of probation, reports Larry Altman of the Daily Breeze.

Voynov allegedly assaulted Varlamova and shoved her into a flat-screen TV on Oct. 19, leading to a drawn out court case.

The Russian youngster will serve the 90 days of jail time in county or any jail in the Los Angeles area, and was also instructed to pay fines totaling $700, perform community service, and take a domestic violence course.

He was instructed to surrender and serve his jail time no later than July 14, and could potentially have his time cut to 45 days for good time.

Voynov's plea agreement could also lead to a potential deportation for the former second-round pick, although the matter will likely be discussed in immigration court.

The Kings released the following statement regarding the court's ruling:

We believe the legal system has effectively resolved this matter and the punishment is fair and just. Any act of domestic violence is unacceptable. As an organization, the prevention of domestic violence and the education of our players and employees is of paramount importance. We will continue to actively develop and implement a strategy to deliver this message. We remain steadfast in our support of the National Hockey League as they now begin their own investigative process. Until that is complete we will withhold further comment.

The 25-year-old was suspended indefinitely in October of 2014 after news surfaced of the alleged domestic violence.
