Jake Virtanen is proving to the Vancouver Canucks brass that he has guts, literally.
The 19-year-old, who is trying to cement a spot on the club's opening night roster, scored what was likely the most painful goal of his career Thursday.
Virtanen deflected a Yannick Weber point shot past Edmonton Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot in the second period, with his face.

The goal gave the Canucks a 4-2 lead and, following the game, Virtanen had quite the battle scar.
"I was a little scared, but when I heard it was only a few stitches, I just wanted to get back out there" - Virtanen pic.twitter.com/ikjv3Zy5Qv
