Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant isn't expected to play this season after rupturing his Achilles in Game 5 of last year's NBA Finals.

However, his longtime business partner and friend, Rich Kleiman, says Durant hasn't completely closed the door on suiting up for Team USA at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

"(Tokyo is) definitely a possibility," Kleiman told Ben Golliver of The Washington Post. "He allowed his name to be in the group of finalists. But there are other benchmarks in front of him that are more important before he makes those decisions."

In February, Durant was named among USA Basketball's 44 finalists for its 2020 Olympic squad. The group stage for the men's competition is scheduled to begin July 26, which is just over a year after Durant suffered his devastating injury.

Durant appears to be progressing through his rehab. The two-time Finals MVP recently participated in shooting drills with the Nets' coaching staff.

In 2010, Durant earned MVP honors after leading Team USA to the FIBA World Cup championship.

The 31-year-old was also a member of the United States' past two Olympic gold-medal squads. Durant scored 156 total points at the 2012 London Games to set the record for total points scored in an Olympic basketball tournament.

Team USA is coming off a disappointing seventh-place finish at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo and head coach Gregg Popovich plan to announce the team's final 12-man roster during the first week of June.
