Spurs' Mills, Jazz's Ingles headline Australian Olympic squad
Basketball Australia announced Saturday its final 12-man roster for the 2020 Olympics later this month.
San Antonio Spurs guard Patty Mills and Utah Jazz forward Joe Ingles are among seven NBAers that made the final cut.
Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons wasn't on the roster after opting not to play for the Boomers this summer.
Josh Giddey, Xavier Cooks, and Brock Motum will serve as replacement players, according to ESPN's Olgun Uluc.
Here's the full Australian Olympic squad:
Player | Team |
---|---|
Aron Baynes | Toronto Raptors |
Matthew Dellavedova | Cleveland Cavaliers |
Dante Exum | Houston Rockets |
Christopher Goulding | Melbourne United |
Josh Green | Dallas Mavericks |
Joe Ingles | Utah Jazz |
Nicholas Kay | Shimane Susanoo Magic |
Jock Landale | Melbourne United |
Patty Mills | San Antonio Spurs |
Duop Reath | Crvena zvezda |
Nathan Sobey | Brisbane Bullets |
Matisse Thybulle | Philadelphia 76ers |
This will be the fourth Olympics for Mills and Ingles, while seven players are making their debuts in Tokyo.
The Australian men's basketball team has never reached the Olympic podium but finished fourth in Rio five years ago and at the most recent FIBA World Cup.
"Unfinished business is in the forefront of all our minds," Baynes said in a statement. "We're all excited to get out there and chase that gold medal.
"There's so much young talent coming through in Australian basketball that we're excited to incorporate into the Boomers system and hopefully lets us take that next step. When we can mix that and incorporate that team chemistry quickly, that will be key to our success."
