If the Olympics are a showing of great courage and perseverance, the poster boy through day one of the Rio Games is certainly Germany's Andreas Toba.
After an awkward fall during his floor routine tore his ACL, Toba was forced to end his event early and hobble off to the bench. While an injury of that magnitude is hard enough, he would have to compete in the pommel horse for Germany to qualify for the team competition.
Despite the debilitating injury, Toba was up to the task, completing a clean routine before being helped off by his teammates. Thanks to the fact he was able to finish, the Germans can advance to the team competition.
