Spieth says Jason Day's success bothers, motivates him
Jason Day's wire-to-wire win at the Players Championship was his seventh win in his last 17 starts, and the world's top-ranked golfer seems untouchable this season.
The world No. 2, Jordan Spieth, see's what Day is doing, and is hellbent on matching it.
"I know that feeling and I'm looking to get that back and definitely there's some motivation there," Spieth told PA Sport. "He's playing his game. He believes his game is better than anybody else's and he's on his game and so it's better than everyone else's.
"What he's doing right now I think I can win the next two events and I'm still not going to surpass him in the world rankings. He's separated himself and that bothers me and it motivates me."
Spieth was Player of the Year in 2015, after dominating the Masters and winning the U.S. Open, but the 22-year-old hasn't quite bounced back from squandering a five-shot lead at Augusta in April.
With one win this year, and plenty of golf left to be played, Spieth's Masters debacle is unlikely to spoil his entire season, but unless a turnaround happens fast, it looks like 2016 belongs to Day.
